On the Russian Pacific island of Shakhalin, the regional governor said that nine people were recovered from under the rubble of a 5-story building that partially collapsed.
Emergency workers are still searching for the missing person, he said on Saturday. The building is believed to have partially collapsed due to a gas explosion. A 20-liter gas cylinder attached to a stove exploded before the building collapsed, Russian news agency Tass reported, citing a source in the emergency department.
The cause of the accident is being investigated, the Russian Investigative Committee said.
