A moderate earthquake has killed 44 people in Indonesia’s West Java province. Several hundred people were injured on Monday in the earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale. Besides, hundreds of houses have collapsed in the earthquake.

An earthquake struck West Java at around 1:20 p.m. local time on Monday. According to the United States Geological Survey, the 5.6-magnitude earthquake originated 10 kilometers underground in the city of Cianjur, West Java.

Jakarta, the former capital of the country, was also shaken by this earthquake that hit Java. The city of Cianjur in West Java was the epicenter of the earthquake, said Herman Suharman, a government official there.
